Slideshare 101

You know how you can share videos online through YouTube? Well Slideshare lets you do the same thing with PowerPoint slides, plus it offers a bunch of other cool features for online presentations and interaction!

What is It

Slideshare allows you to create your own organizational "channel" and upload and share PowerPoint presentations and PDF files. Once uploaded, your presentations can be embedded in a blog, website or wiki, where people can view your content without having to download the slides.

You can also create slidecasts, synching audio narration to your slides to create recorded lectures and presentations.  

In addition to providing a way for you to host and share PowerPoints and PDF files online, Slideshare is also a great source of content. You can search for presentations on career and business-related topics and then share those with your stakeholders. 

What Do I Need to Know?

Slideshare is a nice simple social media tool that can be a great resource for workforce professionals. 

  • Develop your PowerPoint skills. Slideshare presentations are very visual--the dry, musty list of bullet points isn't going to cut it. If you want to use Slideshare effectively, take some time to look at the presentations featured on Slideshare's home page. They will give an idea of how to spice things up. 
  • Use it to educate job seekers. You can create and share PowerPoint tutorials on resume writing, interviewing, etc. Once they are uploaded into PowerPoint, you can share on your blog, a wiki or through LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. 
  • Use it to educate WIB members and business customers. Create and upload presentations on local labor market information, business services, industry issues, etc. 
  • Search for presentations created by other users on career and workforce topics, then share through your networks. You don't need an account to find and share presentations.
