Recovering from Toxic Work: A 7-Day Writing Course to Help You Let Go and Move On from Michele Martin on Vimeo.
What people are saying about the Recovering from Toxic Work Course:
"This was a fantastic course. I've nothing negative to say about it at all. Thank you, Michele!"--Carol D.
"I've shared your course with (a friend) who is going through a terribly vindictive time with a co-worker, and she was excited to hear that your course existed! I thank you for offering it and helping us reach closure!"--Carrie N.
For the past 20 years, I've worked as a career coach, helping people work through transitions in their work lives.
One issue that comes up again and again is how to deal with a toxic workplace. So many people are stuck in jobs that suck the lives out of them or are in work environments where they feel unappreciated, stressed and bullied.
Others may have escaped a work situation that was bad for their health, but find that in their new jobs, they are still bringing with them some of the negative emotions and thoughts that developed in their previous jobs.
According to Monster.com, here are just some of the signs of a toxic work situation:
- You do the work of two or three people and receive little or no appreciation.
- Coworkers steal your ideas and take credit.
- Some workers get away with things that others don't.
- Bosses or team members deflect responsibility or project blame for failures onto others.
- Co-workers miss deadlines and impact your productivity.
- Bosses and peers rely on fear and intimidation.
- Constant gossip and office politics.
When you're in a toxic work situation (or have left one behind), you can get stuck in a stormy sea of emotions--anger, fear, anxiety, sadness, even shame. These can have profound impacts on your emotional and physical health and make it difficult for you to take the actions necessary to heal and move on. You may know what you need to do, but feel trapped and powerless to actually take action.
Until you start to deal with the thoughts and emotions caused by toxic work stress, it may be impossible for you to do anything about it.
Heal and Transform through the Power of Expressive Writing
In this self-guided, 7-day course (delivered over the course of two-weeks), I'll take you through a series of writing activities designed to help you release some of the most difficult emotions stirred up by a toxic work environment. You'll move step-by-step through a process that's designed to release your negative feelings and get you to a new place of understanding and action.
You'll have the opportunity to dig deep and release the anger, sadness and even shame that you may be feeling about your toxic work situation. You'll also have an opportunity to develop a new understanding of yourself and what has happened to you as a result of being in a poisonous work environment. In addition, you'll have access to resources that will help you move forward--whether you decide to move on or stay put.
By the end of the 7 days of activities, you should be feeling better, stronger and more positive about your situation. And you may also see improvements in your physical health, your relationships with family and friends and your ability to focus and get things done!
Not all of your problems will be solved and there may still be difficult work to be done, but you will feel freer, stronger, and more empowered to take action and take charge!
Requirements
This course does not require good spelling, great grammar or the ability to "write well." No one will see what you write and you have complete control of the process. I won't be "forcing" you to explore any topics you aren't ready to take on.
All that's required is your willingness to spend about 30 minutes a day going through the activities. And a commitment to doing the work all the way to the end. You will get out of this experience what you put into it, so make sure that you are really ready to take some action!
Who Can Benefit
This course is for you if:
- You are feeling overwhelmed or stressed by your daily work.
- You find yourself dreading each day and can barely drag yourself out of bed in the morning.
- You find you that you are having bursts of anger or crying jags or are taking your stress out on family and friends.
- Your family and friends are sick of hearing you complain and just want you to DO something!
- You've left your toxic work situation, but can still feel the toll it took on your self-esteem and ability to do your work well.
If this sounds like you, then you may benefit from the course. BUT. . .
You must also be willing to do the work!
This process can help you gain clarity and feel better, but for you to really benefit, you must go through the work of the daily activities. Without this commitment, you won't see any benefit!
