Which of Your Skills Are Obsolete?
I ran across this great wiki the other day--Obsolete Skills--a collection of abilities that used to be essential for many of us, but that we no longer need in our daily lives. We're talking skills like "dialing a rotary phone" and "cursive handwriting."
The full list is amusing, but also a little sobering because I think that many of us aren't aware of of how the skills we rely on to make a living may in fact end up on that obsolete skills list--if not now, then in the near future. One of our ongoing challenges as professionals is to continually monitor our skills to see where we want to develop ourselves. We might want to start with determining what percentage of our personal marketability is based on skills that are going the way of the dinosaur.
